Sodi Sizzles at Kimbolton

By Karting1 ~ April 12th, 2011. Filed under: Announcements.

With temperatures at the weekend reaching a high of 21 degrees, the Taylor International Motorsports Sodi Race Team returned to Kimbolton. A great days testing on Saturday saw both Henry Easthope and Rob Gilford set some fine times despite the fact we started the day with a bent frame and ended the day with the water pump seal leaking on our fastest engine. Some hasty overnight repairs saw us back on course with second and third fastest times in morning warm up in Seniors.

The sun was shining and things were hotting up nicely and we’re not just talking about the weather. Senior Rotax Heat 1 saw Henry Easthope starting 20th and finishing 7th and Rob Gilford who was 5th on the grid claim 1st place. One Heat down, two to go. Heat 2 didn’t go as smoothly with Henry 8th on the grid and Rob 15th. A major collision at the first corner saw a complete change of fortune leaving Henry in 21st place and Rob dead last in 23rd. But even this wasn’t enough to keep the boys down and saw Henry making his way back through the pack with an incredible drive to take 3rd place and set the fastest lap of the whole weekend in the process and Rob finishing a very creditable 12th. Heat 3 saw Henry starting 8th and finishing 2nd and Rob 16th and finishing 8th – another impressive performance.

On to the Finals and in Seniors it was Henry on Pole and Rob grid five and after a great start for both drivers Henry set about stretching a lead. Rob made a brave move for fourth but it failed to work and cost him badly losing a host of places. Meanwhile at the front there was now a gap opening up to the second driver of about 10 kart lengths and lap 9 of the 12 lap final saw us open up a 25-length gap. Hot on Henry’s heels was his good friend Ben Palmer charging through to second now and closing the gap rapidly. The last lap saw only a 1 to 2 kart gap between the drivers but but Henry just managed to hold Ben off to take the chequered flag. Rob made a great recovery from almost last to a finish in tenth place.

Also fast was Jake Blackledge our Cadet driver who after some engine problems over the last few weeks he was back up to speed. Heat 1 saw Jake starting 19th on the grid and finishing 7th, In Heat 2 he started 20th and finished 5th and while in Heat 3 Jake started 11th was fired off but managed to get back to 14th from last place. For the Final, Jake started 8th but a collision at the first corner saw him drop to 15th but undeterred Jake kept his cool and had a fantastic drive to claim an impressive 4th place while setting a fastest lap almost four tenths faster than anyone else. Yet another great weekend for the team and thanks to all the drivers for yet another set of excellent results.

The weekend also saw a lot of interest in the new chassis and anyone wishing details or a test should ring Tim on 07811 252949 or Josie on 07973 911148.
