Vettel Credits Astonishing Monza Pole, and F1 WIN to Karting!

By Karting1 ~ September 14th, 2008. Filed under: Kart Racing News.

Some may have noticed before Spa F1 GP that KSM (Schumacher’s kart team) had Vettel test a KF spec Tonykart at Kerpen. The wet practise must have done something as Vettel stormed to his first pole in the wet conditions at Monza. He had this to say -

“In karting I always liked to do some wet practice and wet races and so on,” Vettel told a news conference.
“Before the grand prix in Spa, I went to Kerpen to do some karting…we were building the kart up and I said, ‘Let’s stay with slick tyres for the wet conditions’.
“They said, ‘No, you are mad,’ and I said, ‘I need some practice if it rains in Spa.’ Obviously, just one week later there is more rain in Monza against all expectations.”
