Super 1 Rotax to Introduce Clutch Slip Detectors?

By Karting1 ~ June 15th, 2009. Filed under: Kart Racing News.

The Super 1 Championship have been discussing whether competitors would like to see the introduction of separate Unipro data loggers to detect excessive clutch slip in the Rotax classes. However it does come at a cost as the mounting kits and sensor cost £117 for each competitor.

Unipro Data Logger Karting

This system is already used in the KF classes

The system itself fits on the rear of the kart seat with two sensors – axle speed/engine revs – and a red light comes on after the session if the clutch has been slipping past what the regulations allow. This simple system has been successfully used already in the KF classes.

Nothing has yet been confirmed as competitors have been discussing the pros and cons of running such a system and apparently 100% agreement needs to be found before any change. We’ll update on any new information.

I can’t keep up with this, clutch slip cheats have been at it for years, then they all get caught, all hell lets loose, then we get new clutches we can slip legally???? then we have to dismantle them for scrutineers all the time anyway (even though grease is allowed)????? then comes the sealed clutch bearing so no more slipping, then the 09 barrels come in and blow all our motors out of the water…. or do they????and now we are likely to be asked to shell out for clutch slip detectors.

Rotax ran fine for over a decade already without all this hassle, and all of a sudden we are getting stung left right and centre. Why are Rotax and officials suddenly saying oh the clutches are no good, the barrels are no good, you need a unilogger to catch cheats.

Look mate, if you buy into a single make class then you can’t complain when you get bent over. You go into Rotax and you become a slave to their particular whims until you leave the class
