Shocking video demonstrates dangers of not looking in front you!

By Karting1 ~ July 16th, 2012. Filed under: Kart Racing News.

We’ve all done it. In the pursuit of every last milisecond we tuck our head behind the steering hoping for some mythical aerodynamical advantage. For the most part it’s psychological, but nonetheless we do it anyway. But a shocking video has appeared on youtube demonstrating the dangers of such a practise. That microsecond of not looking at the track in front can have frightening consequences as Vincenzo Paparo found out. The impact was at 114 kph / 70 mph. It also serves as a reminder to be observant when joining the track, especially if pit exit is on the racing line.

The video reports that neither driver was harmed. Lucky boys!

I would say that it is more the driver who entered the tracks fault, vs the driver with his head down.

Though if you’re gonna tuck your head, you’ve gotta have at least some view of the track ahead!

Also, that mythological advantage comes from turbulence to the air box, it affects the carburation of the motor.
