Parilla Reedster KF1 Revealed + Fore Test
By news ~ January 5th, 2007. Filed under: Kart Racing News.
The IAME KF1 engine has to be the most anticipated KF1 engine of them all, and is tipped to dominate the new CIK catagory in a similar way it has dominated JICA in recent years.
Maxter, PCR, and the other manufacturers can’t be to happy about that!
A photo of the new IAME Parilla Reedster KF1 Kart Engine has appeared on www.maillardracingteam.com

It isn’t the prettiest engine, but it’s ‘the future’. If, however, this engine does dominate the field as suspected, serious questions will be asked about KF1 being the right move for kart racing.
Some sites are now advertising the engine for about £2,145.24. Teams will have to hope that these new ‘long life’ engines really are ‘long life’!
In relation to the release of this photo, Davide Fore has tested with his new Marenello team powered by the new Parilla KF1 engine and has commented about the experience.
He described the performance at low revs as ‘the engine does not go so well’, but he praised the top end performance as ‘really powerful’ More details of Fore’s test can be found at Vroom.it
Fore posted a best time of 42.9 seconds after 110 laps. An ICA (from what we can find) will lap around the 43.4 mark, and ICC’s will run around the mid 42 mark. The full weather conditions are unknown for Fore’s test, and he probably ran underweight (KF1 weight limit is not official yet), but the times are comparable with current generation engines.
Some early eye witness reports of the test suggest that the engine sounds ’similar to a 100cc’ (which can’t be bad). However, they also noted that Fore was noticeably ’smoother on the brakes, and didn’t lock the rears so much as with the 100cc’. This will cause some discomfort to drivers, and spectators who like to watch the art of proper kart control.

Mid 42’s in qual at the Italian Open and high 42’s in the finals in Formula A. Assuming he didn’t use new tyres then the new engine is the same pace as old, if he did then its half a second slower but its important to factor in race rubber and other karts putting rubber down into lap times.

I think S Garda was wet as well…in the morning anyway….I think it dried out!
But it looks as if the new engines won’t be a big leap in pace.

What a waste of time and money. The beautiful 100 CC engines are so fast, simple and cost effective. These new money eating machines will only hurt karting in the long run. Get back to the 100 CC engines and we will all be much happier.

Yh, he tested the 100cc in the moring to get used to the chassis, and then he tested the KF1 later on.
It revs to 17,500rpm and will probably push arounf 35hp
Dominic, I couldn’t agree with you more! 100cc

More parts, more cash, these aren\’t Japanese cars, these are Italian engines. I am not knocking the Italian, they make great stuff, but a racing engine is a racing engine.
Here\’s my 2 cents, the homologated 125s will cost more then the 100cc\’s, the weekend ****** market that these things were aimed at won\’t shall out that kind of cash. The reason why these 125s were so popular, it\’s because they were unregulated. (PRD)
