KF Winter Series 2008/09 – Push For More KF1 Drivers Paying Off?

Paul Fletcher has made it no secret he wants to see more drivers in KF1 next year. He has offered free tires for the first 25 entrants in the KF1 Winter Series, and KF1 MSA Super 1 British Championship. The Winter Series entry list has been released, and it appears at first glance that Fletcher’s efforts may be paying off. A total of 18 karts are officially registered with the possibility of more drivers entering. Even karting legend Bobby Game is coming out of retirement to compete!

Many will welcome the extra karts as it has almost been an embarrassment this year at times for the UK’s premier karting classs. With the way it was going the cancellation of KF1 for 2009 wouldn’t have been that much of a surprise.
However, with only 21 karts registered for KF2 it does raise the question – why not just run 1 grid combining the KF1 and KF2 entrants? UK Rotax Superstar Chris Lock is graduating into KF2 for the Winter Series, and it does seem a shame that he has not moved into KF1 instead.
Surely having one grid of 40 karts that includes the British Champions from all quarters racing it out on the same bit of tarmac at the same time would be x10 better than two half decent sized grids?
