Ardi-no-go! Top drivers look set to miss out at CIK World Karting Championship!

Some of the world’s best kart drivers look set to miss out on the biggest race of the year – The CIK World Karting Championship at Zeura, Spain. Section 18 of latest Sporting Regulations from the CIK for the 2010 World Championships mean that drivers such as Marco Ardigo, Arnaud Kozlinski, Gary Catt, and Davide Forè may not be eligible for entry because they do not fit at least one of the requirements. There had been questions about whether the top teams would enter anyway after the championship demoted SKF in favour of using KF2 karts and the major manufacturers continual boycotting of CIK events.
18) Additionally, Drivers meeting at least one of the following
conditions below :
a] classified in the top 34 of the 2009 CIK-FIA World Cup
for KF2 or KF3;
b] classified in the top 34 of the 2009 or 2010 CIK-FIA
European KF2 Championship or of the 2009 CIK-FIA European
KF3 Championship;
c] classified in the top 34 of the 2009 or 2010 CIK-FIA
Asia-Pacific KF2 Championship;
d] having participated in at least one 2010 KF2 CIK-FIA
Championship, Cup or Trophy Event or in one 2010 CIKFIA
«U18» World Karting Championship Event;
e] classified among the finalists of the 2009 CIK-FIA Panamerican
ICC-Sudam or ICC-Sudam-Junior Championship;
f] having participated in at least three Events counting
towards a Karting Zone Championship recognized by the
CIK-FIA in 2009 and/or 2010 in a Senior category and
having been classified in the first 33% of the participants
in a minimum of two races;
g] classified in the top 10 in either 2009 or 2010 of KF2
national Championship organised by an ASN affiliated to
the FIA (in accordance with the choice and the calendar of
the ASN concerned) and in accordance with Article 18 of
the ISC;
h] who scored at least one point in the 2010 CIK-FIA European
KZ2 Championship.
i] having entered the 2010 CIK-FIA European Super KF &
KF1 Championship;
j] having participated in all the 2010 CIK-FIA European
KZ1 Championship Events;
k] for licence-holders of an Asia-Pacific ASN : having participated
in the 2010 CIK-FIA Super KF & KF1 World Cup.
2009 and 2010 has seen a continual conflict between the major manufacturers and the CIK and issues have not been resolved leading to this stalemate. With Kozlinski possibly not being able to defend his titles, and other top drivers not competing, questions will be raised over the value of the World Championship which has been seen as one of the world’s most important motorsport events.

Some of the world’s best kart drivers look set to miss out on the biggest race of the year – The 2010 CIK World Karting Championship at Zeura, Spain –  because they fail to meet entry criteria.

Section 18 of the latest Sporting Regulations from the CIK for the 2010 World Championships suggests that drivers such as Marco Ardigo, Arnaud Kozlinski, Gary Catt, and Davide Forè may not be eligible for entry because they do not fit at least one of the requirements set out. The CIK have confirmed  to us that to enter the World Champs you must comply with at least one of the Section 18 requirements.  There had been questions raised about whether the top teams would enter this years championship as they have boycotted all the major CIK rounds this year. It appears the decision may have been made for them now anyway!

Section 18 Sporting Regulations 2010 CIK World Karting Championship:

18) Additionally, Drivers meeting at least one of the following

conditions below :

a] classified in the top 34 of the 2009 CIK-FIA World Cup for KF2 or KF3;

b] classified in the top 34 of the 2009 or 2010 CIK-FIA European KF2 Championship or of the 2009 CIK-FIA European KF3 Championship;

c] classified in the top 34 of the 2009 or 2010 CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF2 Championship;

d] having participated in at least one 2010 KF2 CIK-FIA Championship, Cup or Trophy Event or in one 2010 CIKFIA «U18» World Karting Championship Event;

e] classified among the finalists of the 2009 CIK-FIA Panamerican  ICC-Sudam or ICC-Sudam-Junior Championship;

f] having participated in at least three Events counting towards a Karting Zone Championship recognized by the CIK-FIA in 2009 and/or 2010 in a Senior category and having been classified in the first 33% of the participants in a minimum of two races;

k] for licence-holders of an Asia-Pacific ASN : having participated in the 2010 CIK-FIA Super KF & KF1 World Cup.

Reigning World Champion Kozlinski- Will he be able to defend his title?

2009 and 2010 has seen a continual conflict between the major manufacturers and the CIK . The issues have not been resolved leading to this stalemate. With Kozlinski possibly not being able to defend his title, and other top drivers not competing, questions will be raised over the value of the World Championship which has been seen as one of the world’s most important motorsport events.
