RX250 Challenge: Another Flying Success

Press release: 23rd July 2009
The RX250 Challenge is the fastest arrive and drive race series in the UK, and competitors returned to the fantastic circuit at Warden Law, near Sunderland on Sunday 19th July.
The race organisers had put in an early order for some fine weather, which was delivered right on cue at 9.00am just before the morning practice session. “Warden Law suits the new Sodi RX250 karts particularly well” explained series organiser Ben Hyland, “with a nice mixture of fast flowing bends to utilise the power and some tighter infield to use all that 4 stroke grunt!”

The racing was again covered by Karting Magazine and competitors and spectators witnessed some fabulous close, fast and fair kart racing, just how it should be. Karting Magazine’s James Hayden put in a strong performance only to be docked a place for an overenthusiastic move into the last corner.
Mark Sheerin, a new driver to the series and ex WF club racer had a fantastic experience. “The RX250 Challenge represents a seriously viable alternative to going club racing, especially in these credit crunch times and with the high caliber drivers at the front of the field the challenge is just as difficult too. It has given me the ideal opportunity to get back on track in a valid and reputable series.”

The Sprint races saw less than a second covering nearly 70% of the field, with the karts’ equal performance being one of the most impressive attributes to the racing for any newcomers. Lotus Elise Trophy front runner, Gavin Kirby, made an appearance and was ‘pleasantly surprised’ with the power on offer from the 22horse power engine. Bearing in mind Gavin is used to driving his race spec Lotus 2-eleven with 270horse power per tonne!
The undisputed star of the day (and series so far) is 17 year old, and ex JICA Stars of Tomorrow driver, Tim Morley. Tim won the first race meeting and was back to ‘Challenge’ any new drivers as the king of the RX250’s so far. His smooth and consistent driving style was once again too much for the competition, winning both his heats and the final. “The karts were faultless again, the set up changes you made worked really well. Already looking forward to PFI which should be another good event!” said Morley.
“It was a pleasure to watch Tim drive the karts again” said Ben Hyland, “And with the driver’s ages ranging from 17 to 57 we are attracting all levels of karter, from the experienced rental driver to the full blown racer. We welcome anyone down to experience the kart into this friendly yet competitive series”.
The next RX250 Challenge event is at PFI Circuit, near Brandon on August 9th. You can register online to race or practice at www.rx250challenge.com or call Ben Hyland on 07779 305353
