Martin Collard as outgoing Chairman reported on activities for the last year which included our representation at all MSA karting technical meetings and at ABkC meetings. He also noted that quite a lot of his time had been spent on dealing with the new Cadet homologation requirements which he believed to be an essential part of the BKIA’s contribution and not always seen by the trade.
Membership had achieved a reasonable level with a total of 63 for 2010 he said but there still remain some key potential members to convince. Our publicity levels had been increased with regular adverts in Karting Magazine and in major championships programmes.
As the constitution imposed a maximum stint of 2 years for the chairman’s position it was time for Martin to stand down and Dannie Pennell was elected as Chairman. The 2011 committee was elected and comprises Gerard Cox, John Hoyle, Richard Jest, Steve McMahon, Grant Munro, George Robinson, Steve Tillett and Alan Turney. Paul Gladstone agreed to continue as Administrator and Treasurer.
The meeting agreed that the annual fee should have a small increase to take into account price and tax increases, and that the membership year should change to run from 1st October to 30th September. Following this year’s early renewals to align with the Want to Start Karting brochure, which includes a list of current BKIA members, it was believed beneficial to align the membership year with this publication date. The meeting also agreed that to encourage members to renew and ease their administration that direct debit renewals would be used in future. There was also some discussion as to how to show the benefits of membership and getting that message across to non-members.
The meeting heard from Mark Seels (Jelf Manson Insurance) about possible insurance schemes of benefit to members and encouraged them to contact him so that this could be developed.
The subject of shows and BKIA presence was discussed at length and there was a lot of support for a karting pavilion at the 2012 Autosport Show. This, the meeting believed, would help karting reach new participants.
