FIA Advanced Helmets for Young Drivers at Shenington!

Prototypes of the new FIA Advanced Helmets For Young Drivers were on display at Shenington this weekend as part of a study. The current concern is that the helmets young drivers use, especially cadets, may be over-sized and not as suitable as they should be. A directive from the FIA has put forward these prototypes as an example of what is planned to improve head and neck protection.

The aim of this project is to develop an improved specification for protective helmets for young racing drivers. Importantly, the new specificaion will ensure improved levels of head protection with reduced weight to minimise the risk of neck injuries

The study being conducted today is part of an International Programme to develop the most appropriate geometry for helmets”

The actual helmet itself felt good, and light, and it did make the current helmets look rather large and heavy.
