Super 1 Report - Shenington 9/10 May 2009
The second round of the British Karting Championship at Shenington
started with slight confusion as the KF1 grid was called to meet
about the regulations for 2009. The Kart Sporting Committee decided
they would have a meeting to discuss the 2009 KF1 regulations
and wanted to tell the drivers about that. Issues with 08 engine
parts availability were discussed but the general feeling from
the drivers was they should keep with the rules already in place
for the year. The Kart Sporting Committee will release their decisions
soon.
KF1 Final 1
Elliot Burton was the pole man for the first
KF1 final with Luke Wright lining up in second
place. Burton took the early lead from Lee Bell. As ever in KF1
the racing is crazy and this was no exception. Ben Cooper was
the man with the pace and slowly diced his way through Bell and
Lennox-Lamb to challenge for the lead. He attacked Burton into
Cafe corner which left Burton exposed to attack from Jonathon
Walker and Lamb. Walker and Cooper appeared to pair off. They
battled hard and this allowed Robert Foster-Jones to catch them
both and attack. He soon took the lead but found himself pushed
out by Walker at the first hairpin which let Cooper through as
well. The laps were closing down and it was Cooper who kept his
cool and took the win from Walker.

Sam Snell had the pace all weekend to fight for the
win but will feel slightly dissapointed with his results
KF1 Final 2
Final 2 saw Cooper and Walker battle again for
the early laps. Foster-Jones clearly wanted to get to the front,
which he did. Mark Litchfield driving the unique Maranello RS8
found some speed for the first time during the weekend and was
soon passing karts and edging towards the front. He overtook Foster-Jones
for the lead but into the first hairpin Foster-Jones attacked
by. Litchfield ran wide and onto the bank and that was race over
for him! From then on it looked as if the battle for the win was
between Cooper and Foster-Jones. In the final stages the battle
was close and Foster-Jones made a mistake which saw him drop back.
Ben Cooper took the double-win from Lee Bell and Luke Wright.

Ben Cooper is red-hot at the moment. Can he be stopped?
The driver's parade has been a welcome addition to the Super 1
series

KF2 Final 1
Jordan Chamberlain was on pole for the first KF2
final with Shaun Carter completing the front row. Double winner
at PFi Jake Ball was in 3rd. At the start Chamberlain instantly
took the lead with Carter following closely. Ball tried to stay
close to the leading pair but fell back. What followed was a tight
battle between the leading two as each traded faster laps. However
Chamberlain was in supreme form and took the win from Carter. Links

KF2 Final 2
The second final was very much the same as the
first final. Chamberlain took an early commanding lead which he
would not give up. A display nothing short of a masterclass meant
he was absolutely untouchable. Carter tried hard to stay close.
Alex Lynn managed to close in on Carter in the closing stages but
it wasn't enough. Chamberlain took the double win and cemented a
superb weekend for him after a disappointing opening round at PFi.

KF3 Final 1
Alex Albon was on pole for the first KF3
final with Jake Dennis lined up in second. At the start it was Sennan
Fielding who jumped from third on the grid to lead the race. For
the first few laps he and Albon diced for first but it was Jake
Dennis who found his way through both and took the lead. Albon appeared
to have some issues as he fell back. Alex Walker was now in the
equation but a coming together between him and Fielding at Bruno
Chicane saw them both out of the race. Dennis was then free to take
the win with a consistent Sam Blake in second.

Dennis fought very hard in both finals
KF3 Final 2
After the two red-flagged starts witnessed in the
second KF3 final was a glorious demonstration of extreme defensive
driving by Sam Blake. Blake took the early lead off Dennis and Dalton
at the start but he soon realised something was not right with his
motor and defended hard. Dennis and Dalton found their way through.
In third, Blake knew he had a battle on his hands and defended as
if his life depended on it. A train of 10 karts followed closely.
Albon struggled to find a way through using all if not more of the
track than available to get through. He eventually made it through
but by that time Dennis and Dalton were a good five seconds down
the road, swapping positions, with Dennis eventually taking the
win and Albon in third.

Cadet Final 1
The first Cadet final was a frantic affair! Trevyn-Jay
Nelson was on pole but it was Lando Norris that took the early lead.
Nelson followed closely and tried to break the chasing pack but
it wasn't enough. Nelson decided to go for the lead through hairpin
1. George Russell was looking good also battling his way up from
around 6 and by mid-race was challenging Nelson for the lead. He
managed to find his way through and Harry Woodhead followed him
through. Woodhead and Russell battled and pulled a gap away. Nelson
was soon back on their tail and got past Russell. Nelson tried to
get past the leading Woodhead but couldn't quite manage it. Woodhead
took the flag from Nelson and Russell in third.

TJ and Woodhead dominated the Cadet finals
Cadet Final 2
The second final was a tad less mad. Nelson took
the early lead from Woodhead. This pair had the pace all day and
once they paired off they pushed themselves clear of the pack. Nelson
led for most of the race until Woodhead decided to go for the lead.
Nelson in his own words "left the door open through Bruno which
I shouldn't have done" and Woodhead got past and took the victory!
