Mark Litchfield on a Karting Mission

This is Mark Litchfield (kart 6) making his way from the back of the grid up to second behind his PFI team mate at the time Jamie Croxford (kart 5), in 2005/2006 Winter series for Super Libre at the PFI circuit. It is a storming drive and pay particular attention to the overtaking moves.

Mark Litchfield has a real knack for braking late AND carrying lots of speed into the corner on an early turn in, enabling him to sneak up the inside of drivers who aren't expecting to be done! Check out how Litchfield passes kart no 99 (blue suit, white helmet and black pods).

The film starts with me watching Jamie Croxford at the front of the pack, who unfortunately looks almost identical to Litchfield! But after about half a lap i find Litchfield and start to track his progress through the field. Occasionally I switch back to the guys at the front, so it gets a little confusing.... but I do a better job than the director of the Brazil GP at least!

Litchfield has committed to the move from way behind but knows that he can make the move by shortcutting his way into the corner on an early turn in and tight line. he is also running in to the corner on the brakes and steering together, which takes a lot of feel for the grip available!

His victim makes room for Litchfield once he spots him with his peripheral version. Most drivers do give you room once they spot you making a move like this, despite the fact that you may expect them to turn in on you. Make sure you don't concentrate your gaze on them, look to your apex and let them worry about any contact.

At the end of the race Litchfield grabs 2nd by making his signature move. Its the third time he makes a lunge into that particular corner and it works so well because it surprises the otehr guy and forces him way offline. This is what I call a 'Litchfield' when I'm explaining the technique to my drivers on an EvenFlow training day

My filming on the day is a bit dodgey, it was close to freezing and I was a bit lost as to who to keep an eye on during the race, but I get most of the good stuff from Litchfield. Hope you enjoy the race.
