The annual Kartmasters
GP held at PFi in Lincolnshire is without doubt the biggest one-off
event in the British karting calender. An unfortunate clash with
the CIK KF2 and SKF European Championship meant a lack of European
entrants however an amazing effort from the Trent Valley Kart Club
meant the event was superb.

The TVKC put in a massive effort to improve the event
KF2
The pressure was on KF1 drivers Elliot Burton and
Mark Litchfield to perform well in the KF2 class. A clash of dates
with the European Championship meant a smaller grid than would have
been ideal but the quality was still there. Before the race had
even started Burton was out as his engine didn't want to fire up.
He was left disappointed as he wasn't able to turn even 1 lap in
the Grand Prix Final.

Max Goff led for much of the Grand Prix Final
In the pre-final both leaders Jake Ball and James
Godbehere seized their motors which promoted Max Goff and Mark Litchfield
to the front row for the final. At the start Litchfield, despite
starting on the outside row, found his way into the lead. He wasn't
there for long as Goff made his move into first at the second hairpin.
Litchfield then seemed happy to sit behind Goff waiting to make
his move.

Jake Ball was the man on the move. After starting
tenth he was now in third and catching the lead group. Litchfield
seemed to be aware of this challenge from Ball and was clearly waiting
for the right time to make his move. When Ball was close enough
to cause worry Litchfield made his move into the second hairpin.
Max Goff tried to stick with the British Champion but a mistake
at the last corner allowed Ball to pounce and take second into the
second hairpin.

Mark Litchfield was super smart in the Grand Final
Jake Ball was now ready to chase down Litchfield
but Goff started battling with him and this allowed Litchfield to
build a comfortable gap. The battle was now for second and Tom Joyner
joined the fun. With Litchfield now way ahead Jake Ball fought hard
to maintain his second, and even though Joyner came close it was
Goff who finished third.

Senior MAX
Michael Simpson, the most successful Kartmasters
driver ever, was going for an eighth GP title and he was gridded
second for the final next to pole man Luke Varley. At the green
light Varley swept straight into first, and Dani Graham slotted
into second. Simpson found himself swamped and down to sixth. Unless
something crazy at the front happened the chances of adding to his
many GP titles looked slim.

At the front Graham started to hunt down Varley
but Joseph Reilly didn't want to wait behind Graham and he took
second at the second hairpin. Dani Graham then fell back as the
recovering Michael Simpson took third place.

Awesome weekend for Luke Varley
Going into the final stages of the race it was
up to Reilly to catch Varley, and even though briefly he did chip
away at Varley, there was nothing he could do to close the gap.
Luke Varley won from Reilly and then Simpson in third.
