2007 Kartmasters British Grand Prix - PFi International Kart Circuit

The PFi British GP Kartmasters is one of the highlights of the British karting calender. This year though, the weather was not on our side, and it was wet wet wet!

The big story before the finals began was JICA driver Oliver Rowland's exclusion from the meeting due to an incident with him and two other drivers. Also, the cold damp conditions didn't help the brolly girls, and you had to feel sorry for them. They must have been freezing!

The first final of the day was WTP Cadet. Hazz Truelove took a dominant victory from Andy King. After some early pressure, Hazz eased out a gap and brought it home comfortably with a 10 seconds to his nearest rival. The Rotax 177's started with much promise as Stephen Cobb led Dan Holland. Cobb started to pull a gap and looked comfortable but it wasn't long before Holland started drawing him back in before nailing him for first place. Holland took the victory from Cobb, and then Brian Parrias.

Chris Rodgers took a measured win in Super Libre

The damp track looked as if it might dry up for the Comer Cadet final but a quick rain shower soon ruined that dream. A strong start from Alex Walker set him up for a very hard-earned win. Abigail Gerry looked very threatening in the closing laps, but could not quite catch Alex in time. Hazz Truelove (having already won the WTP final) ) rounded out the top 3,

The rain had marshalls frantically sweeping the standing water away!

Minimax driver Billy Albone took a superb victory in his final from pole position. Untroubled throughout the race he finished ahead of Bill Cowley, and Ollie Walker. In Junior Rotax it was a similar story with one driver dominating proceedings - Andrew Tooley - he was supreme throughout the race and took the win with fastest lap included. Luke Varley took second, with Daniel Llyod in third.

Kartmasters Scott Jenkins

Scott Jenkins had a decent run but couldn't make an impression on the leaders!

JICA, usually the highlight of any race weekend, definitely lived up to the hype. After 3 drivers were wiped out in the pre final, Harvey luckily found himself winning the pre final and getting pole position for the grand final. The start of the race went extremely well for Harvey as he pulled out a small gap in the lead.

Kartmasters Jack Harvey

Jack Harvey regaining his Kartmasters GP title.

However James Godbehere was absolutely lit. He soon caught Harvey and had some frantic exchanges of position on nearly every single corner. However, Harvey, even without the outright pace, didn't want to let go of first. Jordan Lennox-Lamb was also close, but never looked like setting up an attack. However he would be there to pick up the pieces if anything went wrong between the two leaders. However, Godbehere couldn't utilise his pace, and Harvey managed to hold on for the win

Kartmasters Mark Litchfield

Mark Litchfeild looked set for the win, but got stuck in a battle for 2nd, and 3rd!

Rotax MAX started in common entertaining fashion. Pole man Simpson found himself fired off just before the start line by the 'driver behind', and very nearly wiped out the whole field. However the start was abandoned and Simspon was able to re-gather, rejoin, and start from pole. The start went well for Simpson, however he left the door wide open into the first hairpin and several drivers attempted to get through. Luckily for Simpson some strong overtaking saw him regain the lead. His lead was comfortable throughout. However, Benjy Russel was laying down some awesome lap times in pursuit of Simpson but the 10 laps (reduced by thr CoC because of rain) wasn't enough for him and it finished Simpson, Russel, Tyldsley.

Mike Simpson also competed in Super Libre, He did extremely well to qualify on the second row, but his lack of wet pace hampered his chances!

It was a all PFi Team front row in Super Libre. Mark Litchfield on pole, next to Chris Rodgers. Litchfield looked quids in to win after a supreme performance in the pre final. However the start didn't go to plan and Rodgers got the break. Mike Spencer must have had some 'wonder start' from 10th because he found himself in 2nd. However a few moments of bumping and barging between Litchfeild, Spencer, and James Sutton meant Rodgers was able to pull a comfortable gap. At this point Sutton was second, and that left Litchfield duelling with Spencer for third. Spencer was rapid, but a strong pass from Litchfield left Spencer on the kerbing, and nearly the grass. This ruined Spencer's chances of a podium. Chris Rodgers took the win from Sutton, and Litchfield in 3rd.
