Hi all,

Just a quick question on this, when I was looking around for my minibike there are loads of pitbikes with 90cc-160cc engines with LOADS of tuning parts (much like the GX160 and GX200 engines) difference being that they are gearbox engines for bikes but are still compact 4 strokes, power for a 90cc engine starts from 5bhp, standard power on a 160cc engine with big valves is around 17bhp.

I was just wondering if there was a class to race these as a gearbox class as in:

High end class - Rotax Max
Budget class - GX160/200 open

High end class - 125/superkart gearbox class
Budget class - Lifan 4 stroke?

I was just wondering as it would be pretty cool as the next step up from say a GX200 open to upgrade to gearbox class would be something like this engine as an equivilent.

A new piston and full ring set it £24 etc and you can get complete 'bore up' kits as you just need to change the piston and barrel for more power (if needed)

I just wanted to see if anyone had considered fitting one to a kart as a further upgrade for a 4 stroke engine.

yes i am planing to fit a lifan 150 as a winter project on a cheap frame from ebay ...will only be going to the local track for practice/fun ..decided on the 150 as the 160 has a long stroke and i decided on the lifan as honda has owned them for the last two years so QC is better now than the other china pit bike engines ...but i think the YX engine has more tuning goody's
Was going to go with a proper clutch instead of the centrifugal one as a biker friend of mine say i will change gear faster
