|

Hi all,
Due to the width of karts (even with the rim and tyres removed) it is going to be difficult to be able to move the kart from the garage outside to load the kart into the car. I won't be able to move the kart through the doorway in the garage due to the angle the kart would be at to be able to get it out.
I am therefore thinking about storing my kart outside, I should be able to get the kart through a side door from the back garden (much wider door) so I am planning on storing the kart outside in the back garden.
What would be the best way to store the kart outside, there isn't really anything on the kart that would perish, the engine would probably be wrapped up and all fluids removed over the winter so nothing freezes.
Has anyone else stored their kart outside? What do people recomend for storage? Could I simply get a trolley to get it off the ground and then put a tight cover over the kart?
The project kart isn't back together yet (need to get the engine mounts welded onto the frame and the engine to arrive) but need to plan ahead before it gets too big to get through the door! |

Not sure how the engine would react to being tipped up so much, where could I get an upright stand? That might work, the kart even without the engine is quite hard to move around lol I also have hydraulic brakes all round and I have heard that if its stored upright it can cause issues? I guess I would only need to put it upright when moving it around and maybe get a standard trolley for the garage.
I am tempted to buy a small van - looking at a VW Caddy van which will fit the kart above the arches and almost use the van as an outdoor lockup as well lol |

Kart may be temporarily upright without problems. What comes storing them upright, the engine with diaphragm carb doesn't mind. Float carb might fill the engine with gas, but you can fold the fuelpipe with cable tie. Some self-adjusting brakes might get air into them, but locking pedal with cable tie prevents that. Radiator may leak if it is tilted too much or if it's below the engine.
Stone-kart has nice trolleys. I'm wondering if their lift kart trolley can be locked upright for storing? Their upright stand has fixed wheels, so it won't help with your problem, but shows the idea.

| Hmm maybe I could just use an upright stand to move it from where it would sit horizonitally so I can move it through doors etc to get to the car, much easier than trying to handle it by trying to lift it! |
