Just had a look at this: www.karting1.co.uk/news/news/kz1-world-cup-2011-full-race-footage/
And so it struck me that there are several 125TaG engines classed for Super One, but no KZ1/2*. How can that be, especially as they clearly feature at the international level? They obviously provide something genuinely different.

* What’s the difference between KZ1 and KZ2, anyway?

Not sure but I think that KZ1 allows electrical shifters and softer tyres. I think there were supposed to be less restricted engine rules also, but not sure if they have ever existed.

From the CIK

Quote:
125cc gearbox kart categories are now regrouped under the appellation KZ and, at CIK-FIA level, come in as KZ1 and KZ2. There are almost no technical differences between these two classes, and they are mainly distinguished by the level of experience and lists of results of the Drivers. Having long remained confidential in many countries, the use of gearbox karts has considerably been extended over the last decade, thanks notably to very stable technical rules. The foundations of engine homologation were implemented in 1998 and have practically not changed since. This lasting success is due to simple ingredients: a cylinder capacity of 125cc, inlet by means of a reed-box, single-carburettor designated further to an invitation to tender, homologated exhaust and 6-gear sequential gearbox with limited ratio variants.

I think the only technical difference is the allowance of electronic shifts in KZ1, but it hasn't proved to be popular.

In regards to S1, I am not sure why they don't run a KZ series. There would be issues regarding the calender - PFi doesn't allow KZs for example.

The KZ1 British Karting Championship tender was held by Stars/FKS. Not sure where that stands now.

Super one has traditionally catered for the direct drive classes, whilst the gearbox classes have been run under the Super 4 umbrella. I believe Super 4 is still the official british champs for KZ classes.

Of course, as the gearbox & direct drive classes have tended towards eachother, it's probably a roughly sensible time to reconsider the placement of these classes in their respective championships

After this weekends S4 at Shenington it has to go to super1. The driving standards were awful.
But at drivers briefing the series clerk of the course said if there are any driving issues come with your witness and cheque book or I dont want to see you.
This was just a licence to smash everybody out the way. If you give a driver an inch he will take a mile. There has been so many issues this year and nothing has been done about it.
As for the series scrutineer after the final all he wanted to do was take pictures. Not one single technical ckeck on the engines.
If the series is to survive it has to go to super1, at least it will fair on all counts.
Finally I must say I wouldnt want to be a clerk of the course as you always upset somebody, A thankless job

With the diminish of KF i believe its the right time for KZ to go Super1.

We left KZ last year in favour of KGP for this reason, as racing in a british championship with 12 lap finals is just ridiculous!!

With the new extension at PF i see no reason why they shouldnt hold KZ in the future.

Maybe this should be put forward to the MSA, as we really need to pull our finger out and start following europe, the class is growing rapidly and is the most exciting! It just needs to lose its reputation and grow, and i can assure you if it becomes part of super one, the grids will rise!

I totally agree, the races are to short hence all the crashing.

Rotax seems to be the feeder to KZ and most who have tried it agree its the best thing out there

I believe the NKF have 1 year left of there contract so now is the time to approach super 1

The only way that will ever happen is if all the drivers get together and make it happen.
