Hi All,

After our outing at Fulbeck 4 weeks ago racing in the twin 160 pro kart serise part of the RAF, the engines that i built were in perfect condition and ran like a dream.

But returning back i stripped and cleaned all parts and replaced the oil.....now i have a slight big end knock or appears to be. anyone got any ideas?

There is some markings on the Con Rod but only seems to have just been on the surface.

I wasnt sure i have disturbed something while rebuilding these.

I rebuilt one at a time so i didnt get the rods mixed up.

Is there any way of shaving a thou off the cap?

Thanks to all replies in advance

Kevin Colton

when you say you stripped and cleaned all parts are you saying you took the engine apart or are you referring to the kart parts? Regardless you've now found your con rod to be damaged, the rod is now scrap, any wear on the coating is terminal for it, a new one is about £35 so i'd get one and fit it now, the crank can be cleaned up with scotchbrite (there may be a little of the conrods coating on the crank, clean this off with scotchbrite and make sure its spotless before fitting a new conrod)

Make sure yo put oil on the conrod and crank before you bolt the conrod together
