Do MSA Technical Department ACTUALLY READ what they write, or understand karting, or is it the fact that they aren't technical at all?
I quote:
Kart rear axle failures:
Over the last couple of years the MSA has published numerous articles regarding kart rear axle failures. Within the last month the MSA Technical Department has received a further three reports of such failures from scrutineers. One of the most common failures is for the axle to break at the keyway. Others include failure at the end of a nylon insert, and ##where the grub screws for sprocket or brake disc carriers have been tightened many times around the entire circumference of the axle, creating a weak point##.
I have ## the particular bit that makes no f*****g sense whatsoever.
Do any of you have grub screws in your sprocket carriers or brake disks?
I bloody hope not because you ain't gonna have much success when you slam your brakes on or stamp on the throttle.
I think I'll stick to keyways to secure mine! |

I hadn't got round to commenting on that one yet.
So now we all have to put the kart on the floor and start it.
Helmets and gloves on and visors down and the obligatory man with a red flag in front of you.
FYI, The TOSSERS are a six-piece Celtic punk band from Chicago, Illinois.
NOW, all the anal retentive ones are going to arm themselves with stop watches and time the engine run times aren't they?
The track will be littered in each race with dead Comers with lame Tilly carbs.
Making karting more attractive, to who? Certainly not the karter that's for sure.
Making it ******* boring more like.
Just trolley your kart outside the gate and rev the nuts off it and just wait for the fun to start.
Non-MSA racing is SO attractive nowadays. |

About the second one – the engine starting ruling – I wonder:
Even on the other planet which the MSA karting junta inhabits the impracticalities of this ruling must be clear.
Assuming that is the case, there must have been external, environmentalist pressure; but from where?
On side note, Alan, surely you have done your reading on this forum and will know that ‘non-MSA’ is no longer politically correct language. |

I did baulk at using the term but I'm still working on an alternative as 'Sensible, no frills, less rules, use your loaf, no pettiness, use the kerbs, punish contact and forget timed qualifying racing', still seems a bit long winded.
What do you think? |

Who comes up with this stuff at the MSA? I made the rash assumption it was prompted by feedback from MSA licensed officials.
Grub screws in sprocket and brake disc carriers
Warming up a comer engine with the kart on a stand appears to be essential in my experience to avoid the thing oiling its plug, you just cant leave them ticking over like you can a Honda.
