rFactor is a racing sim from ISI. What's unique about rFactor is that after you have downloaded the game, you can freely download unique add-ons (aka MODS) to it from budding bedroom developers. Don't be fooled into thinking these mods are poor quality, because they are not. They can be brillianty detailed.
Here's are the main rFactor links -
rFactor Official Site - www.rfactor.net
Mod Downlaod site (this is where you download FREE mods for the game) rFactor Central - www.rfactorcentral.com _________________ Karting1.co.uk - Karting1 Twitter - Karting1 Facebook |

Hi Alan,
How do you rate rfactor compared to liveforspeed? I have liveforspeed very impressive. Is it worth getting rfactor does it add anything? Mainly play sims as spend so little time in the real thing these days.. |

This is a difficult one.
Live for Speed is the ultra calculated sim, while rFactor is more on the side of immersion and feel.
LFS is the simmers sim in terms of how the physics is calculated, but rFactor feels more realistic. e.g. more feedback effects, and better sound etc....
one thing that rFactor has is the extra mods you can get for it. Some of the tracks you can download for free are ABSOLUTELY stunning.
I compared my footage in an F1 car at Monza, with the real thing, at its SO close, it's hard to believe. here's a comparison vid http://youtube.com/watch?v=Nr5zu4bE3jw
Live for Speed doesn't really have any brilliant tracks. I think most are too wide, too long, and too flat....maybe that will change with S3.
Personally I feel I have benefited driving Live For Speed more so that rFactor however. The way you have too keep on the knife edge in the FOX cars has helped me.
I think its worth getting rFactor though. There's a lot of good things about it. The v8 mod is stunning. Bathhurst is so much fun to drive.
If you go to www.rfactorcentral.com you can check the array of mods available for rfactor. Check out the hall of fame section. _________________ Karting1.co.uk - Karting1 Twitter - Karting1 Facebook |

Hi Alan,
Been checking out the mods and noticed in the comments section there were (on the f1 mods) a huge number of complaints about stuff not working, wierd physics, undrivable cars, rubbish AI etc.. only really looked at the open wheel mods.
Does this match your experience? I loved driving the BMW sauber in Live for speed, is the F1 mod any good in rfactor.
Cheers,
Caien |

Firstly there are I think 8 different mods for F1 alone on rfactor, made by different teams. So don't worry about a few bad comments.
Secondly folks who usually place comments on these mods expect veryy very high standards (even though they are free) so physics to someone may feel like crap whilst to someone else it feels amazing.
I have 26 mods downloaded so far (def. get mod manager otherwise your comp will crash). The best for me are:
F1-88 - The best and the sound for me is incredible.
F1-79 - Its good, though you need a wheel
Megane - This is the most realistic
F1 2007 by MMG - Realistic (though there are loads of F1 as i said)
National Kart - Its a good laugh, though the AI has issues with corners
There are many, many more and I think its probably the most realistic sim at the moment, just bacause it has so many people working on creating mods.
Hope this helps. |
