|
|
| HI Folks - I am considering a GX160 honda cadet kart for my son, he is only 6 & 1/2 years old and we are just practicing at tilbury at the moment, currently we have a comer-cadet S60 with the engine on the right hand side, and its been a great little kart, but long term I think the honda route might be better, especially as that what seems to be the focus down south (am in essex)........... but I have a question, all the competitive honda cadet runners have their engine on the left hand side, occasionally I see the rare/odd one with the honda engine on the right side.........can someone please explain to me the benefit of having the engine on the left???........I'm thinking its possibly for ease of changing the sprocket and chains, and perhaps running a narrow rear track and better weight distribution.........as a mates boy has a cadet kart with the honda on the right and the rear track is on its maximum to prevent the wheel fouling the engine, which is not ideal for tyre management.........I'm sure someone out there knows why!!! |

| think you've got it right .many honda engined karts out there are converted 100cc karts or converted comer cadet both with rh engine. a 'proper' honda cadet has the engine on the left to accomodate the drive on the lh side of the honda. |

Would having the engine over the left hand side make it easier to get the right rear wheel to lift making the kart better round right hand corners (and as most tracks are ran clockwise then you want to be better at right handers than left?)
And if this is the case why aren't some adult chassis made to accomodate engines on the left? _________________ RAFMSA Endurance driver |

| the weight of the engine is balanced by the 'offset' of the driver. karts are normally set up with the rears equally loaded but unequal loading might give an advantage . |
