Just been having a browse on the dark side (UK Karting) and noticed this by Itpro (Ian Turner):

I am SPEECHLESS.....( Obviously not fingerless then, as armed with his trusty crapslock key, he continues onwards and upwards):

You write to a UK karting site stating a SPECIFIC name of someone who you STATE is WELL KNOWN to the UK karting fraternity and IMAGINE that you would be safe from prosecution because you didn't state an address..... You state that you are TRYING to do damage to him......

The laws in Canada MAY let you slander and libel people AT WILL..... they DON'T in the UK!

Use some SENSE..... email Dick and Martin NOW and BEG them to PULL YOUR THREAD before anyone IMPORTANT sees it!

Christ....., I only write this stuff to HELP you idiots stay clear of our UTTERLY DRACONIAN LAWS OF LIBEL/SLANDER!

This country's laws on Libel/Slander are SO strong that we have litigants from around the world COMING HERE to use them! We now IMPORT libel/slander cases! We have 'slander/libel' TOURISTS!

I don't know YOU OR this guy: I just know WHICH one is on shakier ground when it comes to the UK LAW!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't know Thomas Cook was offering holiday trips to the Law Courts.

No wonder people, including myself, no longer post on there when everyone is considered a moron, imbecile or idiot.

Clearly one's mirror is not fuctioning when one looks in it Ian.

Still at least Karting1 is an itpro free zone Smile

And long may it continue that way Alan Very Happy

As someone rightly pointed out, Libel and Slander only apply if what was written/said is untrue.

That is without a doubt one of the funniest things I've read on this forum to date! Smile

The other funny bit was that the guy openly welcomed court action; he clearly feels his case is plenty strong enough for that. So why go on and on and on lecturing that this is where it might lead?

What a sorry sight that site is (Embarassed ), technically hopeless, joyless and humourless – despite the occasional postings of mostly average jokes – and with seemingly inevitable bitching. No wonder it’s in inexorable decline.
Apparently just to accelerate this process, there is then this intermittent, obnoxious shouting about anything and everything … except karting, oddly enough (not – it’s what long absence from any actual karting involvement obviously does).

I'm afraid I took a trip to the dark side, and it was a rather brown shade of dark that I found... smelt a bit too (!)

An interesting thread there was pulled yesterday. It was about a bad experience a Canadian contributor had with a karting based eBay seller. No reason given for pulling it, but one suspects it may be because the site owners/moderators feel they may be legally responsible for what was posted on the thread... and as a consequence may feel the not so tepid heat of a lawsuit. The contributor came back on this morning and attempted to repost, this time attempting to redact the seller's name etc... but this has made things even messier !

In any event, as I pointed there out this morning, while the owners/moderators appear concerned about this thread, they're perfectly at ease in having various contributors hurl all sorts of abuse at each other, much of it slanderous, much of it abusive, much of it unsuitable for minors [a reasonable proportion of the site membership] and none of it in any way helpful.

There's a large amount of people I've spoken to in the past who won't now post on that forum due to the keyboard warrior!! (does that count as slander)

Every single one of his posts is the same, it's just SO boring, i don't bother reading anything he says on there because he just makes a simple point into a massive long rant.

Yes, but everyone is entitled to be boring and have a massive long rant from time to time. Readers of the forum can then, like you, choose to ignore such posts.

The repeated insults, although theoretically prohibited by forum rules, are the problem. Indeed, it got so bad yesterday that both threads were actually pulled within the hour. So only a few might have seen the worst of it. Well, the threads have been removed from the site’s ‘Notice Board’, but the whole threads with those insults can still be found completely intact in Google’s cache!

Along with the fact that children read these forums too, the far bigger problem with all this is the damage to karting’s image.
Unfortunately, when ‘karting’ is entered into google.co.uk as the only search criterion, the first hit is still UK Karting. So any newcomer's first encounter with this sport is likely to involve its ugliest side. Great.

Well, we're perhaps all guilty of an occasional rant from time to time, but this is incessant........

Can't help but agree with the potential for damaging karting's image as well, and as for behaving like that in front of children, disgraceful!

Am I the only one to find it rather ironic that the site's self-appointed moderator-in-chief and enforcer-of-the-rules can also be the worst offender Rolling Eyes
