so then, carb settings, the most curtail thing in TKM racing in my opinion, along with a properly set carb (pop off).

i know this may sound forward but what setting is everyone running and how do they differ from the recommended settings from Tal-Ko?

recommended setting are;

low jet : 2 full turns out
High Jet : half a tun out (not sure what that is in minutes)

I use L: 2.5 turns out H: 1/8 out and adjust by air temperature. When I tried Talko's advised setting my piston went really tan (lean).

Not sure if it does anything for performance really, I was just told to make it leaner when it's hotter and the air is less dense.

What tal-ko say is the set up for running in engines its a safe mix so they don't seize. When the engine is run in you can run the high jet just open keep the low at 2 turns out. The difference I noticed was, it was more pokey coming out of corners. and I think it makes you a bit faster on straights to as its not lubing the engine as much. I also run 170 of 2 stroke to 5 L .

We run the Komet engine over here and it's relatively close in performance and build to the TKM I believe. The carb settings you're mentioning are pretty much spot on to what we run here for Komet settings. Is that a Walbro carb?

I always started at 1 1/2 turns on the low and about 1/8 on the high to get off the grid and for the starts, to keep the engine crisp and lean on the low end, but it won't race like that. As the engine winds up for the start I would open to about 2 turns on the low and continue to open for a couple laps once the engine got to temp, and end around 2 1/8 - 2 1/2 depending on the air quality.
