| Ok, this may sound like a stupid question but i cant find the answer so... How long does a TKM engine last for before you have to do an engine rebuild and also what do you do, can you d it on your ownor do you have to get it done at a place and how much does it cost to doit by yourself and for som1 to do it for you? Thanks, and please dont laugh. |

Hey no probs. Ive had a few BT82's engines (TKM).
I used to rev mine to about 16000rpm and get a full rebuild inc carb every 15 hours, It could have gone longer but 15 hours was always my limit.
You Live in london like me, so a very good engine builder is Dave Germain in Maidstone near buckmore Park and bayford meadows from DG Racing.

A full rebuild is about £180 |

i tend to get mine done after 6 hours (piston, bearings etc and then a full rebuild at 12 hours.it can cost anything from £100 to £200.you can certainly do the work yourself to keep costs down although i dont.its not like rotax where you need a designated engine sealer, there is no seal and you work to fische which i personally think works better and brings the differences between an average engine and a good engine closer together
take a look at the tal-co website for prices of engine parts

lol i started on a tkm bt82. i went to a track couple times then for bout half a year i spent every weekend bombing it round behind factories for bout between 30mins-3hours. round the factories it used to reach bout 13-14thousand revs and then once i got bored of that i started going to camberley kart club (where it was reaching 1600) and before the track got redone. i was the quickest jnr tkm driver there with a 50hour old engine. _________________

you replace old parts for new parts, and then on ur first run out, u have to run the engine in. if you have the right tools its easy. top half of the engine i.e barrel and piston is fairly straight forward to do. the bottom half (the crank) is not so easy cause you need a press and to get it lined up perfectly is very dificult i hear _________________

yes top end rebuilds are quite easy really once u know how, but the first time you do it is a bit daunting,
to be honest, unless you have been taught well, then i would leave the bottom end for the guys who know what they are doing, always choose a reputable engine builder. _________________ Ayrton Senna - "You will never know the feeling of a driver when winning a race.
