Hi everyone!
I am Dave, wrong side of 30, based in Reading and I have decided to graduate from doing trackdays in my kitcar to racing in a Senior Rotax Max series. Probably at Camberley just doing club events while I get up to speed and learn the ropes, and then see where my talent (if I have any) and my budget take me after that. If I have no talent then I will be quite content running round my local club track for ever as long as there is a someone I can be competitive with...
My whole plan is very much in its infancy and the only 3 things I have decided on are that I would like to buy a used race legal Rotax Max Senior, that the most accessible venue to me is Camberley, and that I would like to race competitively so I have applied for my karting licence and the starter pack with the MSA and will be looking to take the test at some point soon.
I guess I have also decided that my budget to get started is around £2.5K (give or take a few quid), and that I would like this budget to get me a kart with a little longevity as far as being competitive in the future goes, whether that means upgrading the engine or whatever.
So I have lots to do before I can spin a wheel in anger! I need to get down to Camberley and suss it out and hopefully get some good advice from the old hands there. Buy a kart (this is the part that worries me most). Practice so I can pass my competition karting test. Learn the ropes and hopefully gain some friends.
Hope you guys will wish me luck, and if anybody can see any gaping holes in my plan please let me know!!
Also if there is anybody near me who would like to buddy up and give me some advice then I would be really grateful. I work at Costco so can always supply a nice packed lunch if anybody invites me to Camberley to watch them and is able to give me a few tips. |

Welcome to karting and im sure you will find it very exciting. I dont race at camberly anymore but it is a great/friendly beginners place.
I live rather locally to Camberly so if you ever need help im sure i could give a hand.
I wouldnt worry about the arks test as its so easy. (Cadets 8yrs+ take the exact same written test as adults, so there is no worries there)

Thanks for that, especially the advice about the arks test and confirming that Camberley is a good place to start.
Thanks also for the offer of help, I would feel much more comfortable running things past someone with experience before I make a decision so may ask your opinion on karts I am interested in if you don't mind. |
