Hi
After reading the carb ice article thread and the reference to the carb sticking fully open, would the brakes still be able to stop you at full rpm?

Probably. I can't remember ever having to test the theory, but I should hope they can. _________________

They can. Just consider how quickly you come to a stop compared to how long it takes to accelerate.
The problem though is that we already brake at the latest possible moment to get round the corner. If the throttle sticks at that point you're probably hitting the tyres. |

When the carb ices its around the atomizer so block fuel to the engine so it dies rather than take you off full throttle into the tyres.
i.e. it freezes water around the atomizer and needle holding the slider open |

No, But plastic barriers and a fence will. Seriously, Fastest way to kill an engine is hand over carb. intake, I have witnessed racers pulling spark plug and engine still run high RPMs. _________________ Chuck McCue

Just make sure you can easily reach the ignition switch _________________

Doubt you wouldn't be able to cover air intake on a Max or twist and pull plug in time, reckon like switch would be close too.

I had to try to kill the Aixro with brakes - no can do. Fronts go fully locked and but rear just won't stall. Luckily I found the stop button soon enough. Tip of a day; always keep helmet. Even when testing if the engine is OK to go to a track after rebuild.
I've had sticked throttle with KZ twice, and went out of track both times. There just isn't enough time to react since you're always on limit anyway. On KZ there's no killswitch, but luckily there's no torque either, so it'll stalls quite easily after killing some revs. |

Yes your brakes will just about be able to stop you.
I had my throttle stick wide open once in junior max and managed to complete the race, it didn't stop particulary well and the brakes were fried by the end and it probably did god knows how much damage to the clutch (old style) however it didn't drive to badly actually, only about 3 secs of the pace. _________________ no1 way to take corners "fast in, faster out!"

It does have a clutch, although that will buzz the engine _________________

dont forget the kz wont change down or up with the throttle jammed.
the only option is to take the plug cap off, the numb arm/hand comes in handy later on |

I had a loose cable tie go over my throttle at shennington. I Can inform you that it takes half the gearbox straight to stop the kart. It then took me 45 seconds to work out why the throttle was stuck on.
It then took me 1 second to explain why you should always cut cable ties off!
The time you brain goes "were not slowing down" to hitting the kill switch is a long way.
either way you want to hope you have plenty of run off. If it had happened at wilkins it would have hurt. _________________ www.Adrenalin-Racing.co.uk
