Evening All
Just uploaded a video from the GoPro of last weekend's heat 2 at Kimbolton. (Forgot to turn the camera on for the final again!! Grrr!) I am about 4 tenths a lap off the winner's pace, but the times are roughly midfield. I am running a stock engine I bought off ebay, I know nothing about what it is producing, it's not been on a dyno yet. Got 16 hours on it. I want to know if all that time is still in me or if there is anything to be found in a motor, so I invite your views please! ( I know the nassau panel isn't a great view but they won't let you mount the cameras anywhere else at Kimbolton). Anything you see, braking too early, too late, poor lines, whatever.

I have another 3 races on novice plates yet before I can start in the pack in the heats. Haven't done a race there yet where there hasn't been a shunt at the first corner!
Thanks!

Not too bad. I'd just say work on your consistency. Your lines varied a bit from lap to lap sometimes. Also work on setting up your overtakes a bit better. You caught the 26 quite quickly, but you got about within a kart-length and you just stalled out a bit it seemed like. Sometimes new drivers fall into the habit of simply following the guy in front when they get close. And you had that other guy breathing down your neck so you should've been all over the 26 looking to get by. You were getting held up it seemed, and then the red kart kept pouncing and failing to make the move stick (good counters to his passes by the way!) but his attempts cost you both time and you had to play catch up to the next kart again.
Seat time and practice the remedy to most things, but you looked pretty good from what I could see! _________________

Thanks TJ - yes you are quite right the lines are still a little inconsistent. I still need to calm down the driving style a bit, I am trying to provoke the kart too much. Another driver I spoke to who drove a Maranello RS7 before he bought a Tonykart, said he found it quick, but unforgiving if you made a mistake. I find it looses too much energy if you get crossed up or out of shape mid corner. But the more I calm down behind the wheel the quicker it seems to get. I remember years ago someone told me about a Formula Ford - "Slow down, you'll be quicker!" I think the same applies here!
I take on what you said about not attacking the kart in front as soon as I got on his bumper. I was able to re-pass the other kart off the corners because I was running a shorter gear, but I dropped 2 teeth for the final and found 3 tenths!
I really enjoyed the Super Nat's - very close and (mostly) disciplined racing, unlike the average club race! I missed Super Sunday as I had to fly home, but I'll definitely go again next year!
Had a lump in my throat to see Dan Wheldon's kart there.
Thanks again! |

looks good just a bit inconsistent but your ultimate pace seems really quick! _________________ Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose. |
