Thanks. I’ll take that as confirmation just to leave the 50 on pretty much wherever I go, then. Who needs the spannering, anyway? Heck, it’s in the name: XR50. Laughing

As for some of the others:

Bayford – been there a couple of times: can’t remember what I ran … must have been a 50. The place just makes me dizzy, anyway.

Buckmore – even if allowed, I wouldn’t want to go near the place with Aixro performance

Truxton – presume typo; meant to be Thruxton: if so, you gotta be kidding. I went there once with a Biland and felt pretty silly doing that.

I’ll look forward to meeting you, then. Look for another McMerc SLR-branded Swiss Hutless bearing no. 88 to find you, I take it.

I may not be using a swiss hutless much longer, may be getting a 2010 tonykart this week as I'm fed up with parts breaking and waiting ages for new ones to arrive.

Hi Justin,

You snapped your axle? The guys with the Monza snapped theirs also. The Birel that i missed (not sure who has it now?) snapped the axle also.
There are titanium axles available which are half the weight and twice the strength of steel and don't corrode.
Just found this carbon axle fabrication outfit:

It's not just the axels, when mine snapped on Saturday it bent some of the axel carriers and they are specific to the swiss hutles chassis and no one really stocks genuine swiss hutless parts in the UK so if I hadne't ended up renting a kart off Richard my day would have been over by 10:30am.

I'm interested in these carbon oxide axels though. I've read that the titanium version tends to bend the chassis if something goes wrong as the axel is so strong it doesn't bend itself.

Yes, I've been running with 3 bearings but with the inside one loose. The axel has 4 holes where an onboard sprocket would be mounted for an icc setup but as we don't need one the 4th hole is a weakness hence the axel is breaking in the same place everytime.

I'm now moving to a 50mm medium otk axel outboard without the 4 holes and seeing how that fairs. Not moving to a tonykart now, sticking to the swiss hutless this year but probably getting a tonykart outfit for 2011.

I thought that, (if they would let it out) but I had a good chat with the guy that owns the track, he's really looking forward to seeing it come down. Theres a lot of twisty turns, but theres that big old sweep to the straight so we'll see.

Yeah I missed out the H in Thruxton, lol.

Yeah mines the one in the picture, 88 SLR one. Want to get down to Rye sometime early April, and probs head down to GYG over Easter too. So be good to see you there. Very Happy

Also Justin how are they snapping? I can see the four holes, but they don't seem deep enough to cause a weakness that would cause them to snap. I have Swiss Hutless chassis too, and obviously want to avoid this happening too.

It depends what model of medium chrome axel you have, I've been running a SH 147.725/27 medium axel (you can find the model number at the end of the axel inbetween 2 holes) but I just spoke with Stephan at swiss hutless today and they recommend a different model of axel that they say works best with an aixro engine due to a different thickness of metal.

However I will be trying a 50mm medium tonykart otk axel and seeing how that goes but swiss hutless do have a model that shouldn't snap under the strain when using an aixro, you will have to email or ring them as I was in the car at the time and have forgotten the model number. You can order parts via their online e-shop but delivery can take a while.

They really want us to visit Buckmore? Apart from anything else, I would have thought they are far too busy with rental karts and wouldn’t have the available track time.
But what would concern me is not the twisty turns – Bayford has that market “cornered” – but the potential for being launched onto the M2.

No problems so far with my 2008 SH

lol TBH I've never been Buckmore, but the breaks on the Aixro are phenomenal, running down to first hairpin at PFI with 9800 odd revs and breaking, (to a almost stand still) makes me not really worry about the breaking potential. lol Should be a fun day though.

Also does anyone have any idea what rear sproket to use at Rowrah? Might be going up there in August time...

Buckmore would be 'interesting', the relatively tight downhill snake, foot in! Shocked

lol Justin had that honour, the owners son then took it right back though, but the Aixro was WAY faster than the Billand's previous record, which is awesome. But yes I was down there doing 27's, LOVE Stretton, awesome little track.

I had same problem with shifter axels. They break at sprocket carrier holes. Switched to 100cc axel (no holes) and problem solved. No broken axels any more.
