I'm guessing that you have a 'older' Alfano Scott.
The new ones use a USB connection to the PC/laptop, but the older versions used serial connection (or IR of course).
A chum of mine bought an Alfano Pro a couple of years ago and I set the thing up on his PC for him, never tried it via IR, he bought the download 'pen' that Alfano sell (sold?) and it worked fine with that.
All the 'pen' does is cover the IR 'bulb' on the Alfano and links to the PC via serial connection. |

Ha, think I sussed it Scott
After a bit more digging about on the Alfano site when they list the interface as USB, all they really mean is that the 'download pen' is now a USB rather than a serial connection (with drivers for XP)
http://www.alfano.be/a_fr/interface_pro.htm
My fault I had assumed that when they said USB interface they meant USB to USB if you see what I mean.
I have used this on a friends Alfano when serial and it worked fine, I have no idea if you can do direct IR to IR transfer as we never tried it.
Your profile doesn't give much away, are you UK based, if so, why not take the Alfano and the laptop to the London Kart Show and ask Alfano direct on their stand _________________ Nick |

That makes two of us
I have only ever managed a successful IR transfer once, between two IBM T22 laptops, rest of the time, the dam thing just doesn't seem to work.
Given the choice between IR and a connection of some type (USB, serial) I'd pick the connection everytime, far more reliable, sometimes life is to sort to fart about with IR stuff. _________________ Nick |
